Cubs Blog Talk - from CCJ10

5th Aurora Has a Blast
July 26th, 2010
Last night we had a nice cool sleep after the camp fire.  We performed the very first skit “Ya Put Ya” (for the Hokie Pokie).  The opening ceremony had a Native smudge and blessing.  All the Cub groups carried in the flags, and then we had a dragon dance and drums.  Kyle carried in the Wolf Head, and Andrew had our flag.  We made woggles, drinking beads to keep us hydrated and beaded our names for the bottles.
Emergency Preparedness made us prepared for a disaster in our first activity.  I learned we needed 20L of water a day.   Andrew was amazed.  At our second activity, Sandy the Speedy won the predator prey winter survival fantastic game and every else died.  Julian had a great birthday, and he really loved lacrosse.  The water for the shower and pool comes from the well.  the cold felt good in the sun.  The pool feels like Antarctica even after 5 min, but it did not stop me from having fun, says Conrad.
We had a fantastic BBQ at lunch, and the food was prepared really well.  We will have a BBQ every day, and we can have as much as we want to eat and drink, which fills me (Jordan) up!  Mitchel and his Dad have made a new friend from Acton named Justin, who comes to join us for meals and tell us about his day.  They are both very relaxed and happy to be here.
We had extra time at archery, and no one wanted to leave.  Ryan was the sharp shooter in the pack (first 3 shots hit the target =in order I hit white, black, blue, white and black), but everyone improved quickly  (Julian wants to do it every day).  We had to leave to go to first aid where we rescued or leaders from heat exhaustion/stroke/cramps, and Jacob was very helpful rescuing a sleeping Baloo by pouring water on him to cool Baloo down.    Davis and Andrew saw that Bagheera left with a very wet T-Shirt too.
To cool off at the end of the rotations, we played water games.  Raksha and Baloo were quickly soaked when the even was rigged by the youth! Kyle and Ryan particularly liked soaking the leaders with sponges and water guns in a very wicked water war.  The youth took particular pleasure when the leaders acted as ducks in a shoot gallery, as they were armed with sopping sponges. Akela was very soggy after this activity.
The Badge trading is really fun and everyone has gained some really neat crests.  Sandy is a badge monster and has a neat collection. A few got crests from Coppercliff and Peterborough, and most hope to visit the Nova Scotia and Tanzania folks to get their badges.  There has to be over 2000 badges and crest being traded here.
Nick and Steve really enjoyed the bird of prey show, as they saw a red tailed hawk, barred owl, E. screech owl, American kestral, and great horned owl.  Some birds can look big, but actually the neck can be as big as a quarter, so the feathers are deceiving.  the eyes can be as big as a toonie. Some birds are not what they seem – they may be small, but they can be powerful. the kestral can fly faster than any car. Birds poop every 2 minutes!
The red haired child and all 11 others say “Hi mom – I’d doing great.  I love you and loved the activities from today, and especially archery”.  No one is missing home at all.  Sorry Dads.  Gotta go for campfire and mug up – more hot chocolate and we hope rice krispie squares before bed!
Love from everyone, and have a blast reading this
Kyle
PS.  If possible copy this off the blog each day so I have a record of all the fun I am having here.
